Physical safety and training standards

Quality in a gym is not measured by how new the equipment looks. It is measured by how likely a member is to leave injured. Everything written here serves one aim: that you progress with the least risk possible. And because absolute zero risk does not exist in physical training, we state the risks and manage them rather than pretend they are absent.

Screening before training

Nobody starts here without a readiness questionnaire. We ask about cardiac conditions, blood pressure, diabetes and asthma, previous injuries and surgery, medication affecting balance or heart rate, pregnancy, and any dizziness or chest pain on exertion. If your answers point to something needing a medical opinion, we ask for your doctor approval before starting. That is not us avoiding responsibility. It is a condition of training you safely.

Technique before load

  • We teach a movement at light weight until the technique settles, then add load gradually.
  • Load rises only on a planned progression, never in comparison with what somebody else is lifting.
  • Warm up before every session and cool down after, and neither is optional however short the hour.
  • We stop an exercise immediately on sharp pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness.
  • A spotter is present for heavy strength work, and there is no maximal lifting without supervision.

Equipment, the floor and hygiene

Equipment is inspected on a schedule and maintained to it. Any machine showing a fault is tagged and taken out of service until it is repaired, not until somebody has time. Weights go back on the rack and walkways stay clear, because most gym injuries come from trips rather than from lifting. Floors, mirrors and handles are cleaned through the day rather than at the end of it.

Hygiene has its own shared rules, which apply to all of us equally:

  1. Wipe the machine down after use. Cleaning materials are provided near every area.
  2. Use a towel on benches and mats.
  3. Wear proper training shoes. Unsuitable footwear is a common cause of a turned ankle.
  4. Do not attend with symptoms of an infectious illness, out of respect for those around you.
  5. Mats and small equipment are sanitised between group classes.

Emergencies

Every shift has somebody qualified in first aid, a first aid kit in a known and visible place, and emergency exits kept clear of obstruction. We hold an emergency contact number for every member in their file and use it only when needed. Any incident is recorded in the incident log so we can review the cause and prevent a repeat.

We are not a medical provider. We do not diagnose injuries, prescribe treatment, adjust medication or give therapeutic diets for a medical condition. Where an injury is suspected we stop training that area and refer you to a medical professional, and we resume when they clear you.

Coaches and qualifications

We verify coaching qualifications on engagement and require first aid certification to be kept current, and every coach is required to work within the boundary of their field. On conduct: complete respect for the member, no remarks about anyone body, and no physical contact except with permission and solely to correct a position. A complaint about a coach is taken entirely seriously and goes straight to management at info@goldysoftactive.com.

Particular groups

We train beginners, older members and people returning from injury on lighter programmes with closer supervision. Children below the permitted age are not allowed into the equipment area and train only in sessions designed for them, supervised, and with a guardian consent. Pregnant members train with their doctor approval on an adapted programme.

What we promise and what we do not

We promise a programme built on your condition, honest supervision, regular measurement, and a clean, safe room. We do not promise a particular number by a particular date, because the outcome depends on your consistency, your sleep, your nutrition and inherited factors outside our control and yours. Anyone promising you a specific body in thirty days is selling an illusion, and we do not trade in that.
