Maintenance & repair Applies to all customers Part of the store terms

Quality in a repair workshop is not a slogan on the wall. It is a chain of small decisions: who picks up the screwdriver, what equipment they work with, which part they fit, and how they satisfy themselves that a device genuinely works rather than merely having started once on the bench. This page explains what Goldy Maintenance controls at each link in that chain, and what we cannot control and therefore declare openly instead of concealing.

Who handles your device

Work at Goldy Maintenance is not handed to whoever happens to be free. Each technician has a defined scope matched to their training: module-level repair and replacement, board-level work and fine soldering, or power and mains-side electrical faults. Newer technicians work under review, and no report reaches a customer and no device is released without passing a technical supervisor. We would rather a report arrive an hour late than a hasty diagnosis arrive on time at your expense.

The bench and the tooling

Poor tooling manufactures new faults. We therefore work with controlled equipment rather than improvisation:

  • Temperature-controlled soldering and hot-air stations, because excess heat damages a board more thoroughly than the original fault ever did.
  • Optical magnification for tracks and fine connections that simply cannot be judged by eye.
  • A bench power supply to measure current draw and expose a short before the device meets a full supply.
  • Electrostatic protection — wrist straps and dissipative matting, since a single discharge you never feel can kill a sensitive component.
  • Accurate meters for voltage, current and resistance, and drivers matched to the fastener so screw heads survive the job.

Parts: grading and disclosure

Goldy Maintenance fits two categories of part and no others: genuine components from a traceable source, or high-quality alternatives from suppliers whose record we know. Every part is graded in the report before it is fitted and again on the invoice afterwards, so you know exactly what went in and why. The difference between the two categories is not only price but expected service life and occasionally performance, and we explain that before you choose. Replaced components remain your property and are handed over on request at collection, unless returned to a supplier under a warranty exchange identified on your invoice.

Post-repair testing protocol

A device that switched on is not necessarily a device that is fit to return. Every repair is therefore tested and documented before it is declared ready:

  1. The repaired function is tested, then the adjacent functions that disassembly may have disturbed.
  2. Operation under load for long enough to surface faults that appear only once the device is warm.
  3. Thermal and current monitoring, compared against the values expected for that model.
  4. Mechanical closure check: every fastener present, connectors seated, insulation and gaskets in place.

Nothing is marked ready until those steps pass, after which we call you on 009004 to arrange collection.

Safety ahead of speed

We handle batteries capable of ignition, capacitors that retain a dangerous charge after isolation, and domestic appliances running at mains potential. Capacitors are therefore discharged before work begins, batteries are disconnected before any soldering inside a device, and swollen cells are isolated in a dedicated container and never refitted however strongly an owner presses for it, then disposed of through the appropriate route. Where returning an electrical appliance to service would put its user at risk, we decline to release it working and record the reason in writing.

Unless the service page states otherwise, we are not an authorised agent for any brand, and we claim no certification we do not hold. Where a technician holds a recognised training credential we name it plainly; where none exists, we do not imply one.

When we get it wrong

Mistakes happen; what distinguishes a workshop is what follows. Where a new fault is shown to arise from work carried out at Goldy Maintenance, we put it right at our own cost with no argument over fees. Where the new fault is unrelated to the area we touched, we demonstrate that with measurement and documentation rather than debate. In either case the original inspection report and the invoice remain the shared reference between us, which is precisely why Goldy Maintenance insists on writing everything down from the first minute.
