Quality and authenticity

This page applies to all store services.

General store Applies to all customers Part of the store terms

In a general store, quality is not a slogan hung above the door. It is a chain of small decisions: who we buy from, how we inspect what arrives, how we describe what we sell, and what we do when we get it wrong. This page sets out that chain in detail, and states plainly the limits of what we can guarantee, because an overstated promise is worse than no promise at all.

Where our stock comes from

We buy from established suppliers with a trading record and proper invoices. We do not buy goods without documentation, or from sources we could not go back to if a whole batch turned out to be faulty. That rule sounds obvious, yet on its own it rules out a large share of the counterfeit supply chain, because counterfeiters leave no paper trail to follow.

When we stock a branded item, we name it correctly. If a product is an unbranded equivalent rather than the original, we say so in its title and description. A shop that blurs the line between genuine and equivalent wins once and loses the customer permanently.

Goods-in inspection

Every delivery into the warehouse is inspected before anything is listed:

  • Quantity and item matching against the supplier invoice, with any discrepancy recorded before payment.
  • Packaging integrity, labelling, and production or expiry dates where they apply.
  • Sample testing by use, not by sight: opened, switched on if it powers up, measured where dimensions are critical.
  • Quarantine of anything doubtful on a separate shelf until it is resolved, so it cannot reach you by accident.

A batch that fails inspection goes back to the supplier. It is not discounted and sold on. Selling poor goods cheaply is not a compromise; it simply transfers the problem to the buyer.

Accurate descriptions and photography

We photograph products ourselves wherever possible, under lighting that does not distort the true colour. Where a manufacturer image is used, we confirm it shows the same model and the same year. Measurements are given as numbers, not as relative adjectives, because "large" means different things to different people while a number does not. And where screen colour may differ from the real thing, we say so rather than ignore it.

Products with variants carry independent stock for each variant. That prevents the familiar annoyance of ordering one size and being told afterwards that a different size is what is actually available.

Packing and protection

Packing is a craft here, not the act of putting something in a bag. We size the box so nothing can shift, use sufficient void fill, and separate liquids from anything that spoils when wet. Heavy items never travel on top of light ones, and sharp corners are covered before sealing. Transit damage rate is the honest measure of packing quality, and we review ours monthly and change our method when it rises.

We do not claim certifications we do not hold. Where a product carries an approved standard or certificate, we state it on that product page where available. Where it does not, we do not hint at one with vague language.

People and responsibility

Quality is produced by people, not by systems alone. Whoever receives stock is responsible for inspecting it, whoever packs is responsible for what they packed, and whoever answers you is responsible for the accuracy of what they said. We do not ask the team to sell at any cost, and we do not measure them on order count alone, because that pressure is exactly what produces the false promise.

When we get it wrong

Sometimes we will: an item that differs from its description, an imprecise measurement, a breakage in transit. Our rule in those cases is single and unconditional. A mistake caused by the shop is corrected at the expense of the shop, with no argument about restocking fees or return postage.
